Paris, Summer 2021
I met Carlos Henderson while taking pictures as I waited for some friends, he even appears in the back of some of the shots. He tried to speak to me about my camera in French and I replied “Parles espagnol?” His eyes opened wide as we both realized that we could communicate in Spanish. We talked for close to three hours about his poems and paintings, art in general, relationships and our own countries Perú and Puerto Rico.

Throughout our conversation and as we said our goodbyes Carlos expressed how happy he was to hear and talk to someone in Spanish. It had been a while since he truly had a conversation in his native language.
I’ve always liked the presence of skaters and skating in photographs. Specifically in settings like this were they’re not really doing anything, just taking a break.
Skating is something I always wished I had the talent for.

Night photography isn’t something that I usually do in Puerto Rico, but in Paris it was hard to pass up the opportunity. So I borrowed a tripod and went out a couple of nights in a row.

The Cinemas of Paris caught my eye since I’d never really seen anything like them before. This culture of independent cinemas doesn’t exist in Puerto Rico where the industry is controlled by one monopoly.
